We love our volunteers--on stage and off.  There is a lot of work that goes into putting on a show like Joseph and the Amazing Techincolor Dreamcoat.  Set building, lights, sound, props, actors, cleaning, ushers, receptions, concessions, box office, lobby, production assistants, parents, phones - hats off to everyone who had a part.  Success!

Diary of Anne Frank auditions are August 13th at 7:00 PM at the Ritz Theatre.

No preparation necessary.  There will be cold reads from the script.

Please, bring a list of ALL conflicts between August 14th and October 1st. Reminder that the performances WILL include two school shows on Thursday September 21st and work or school will have to be missed on that day.

First and foremost let me thank you for your interest in auditioning for Little Shop of Horrors. This is going to be an incredible experience and we are so PUMPED that you want to be a part of it. To make the audition process go as smoothly as possible PLEASE read EVERYTHING on this notice so you can be as prepared as you possibly can be!
We will be looking to fill the following roles:
Seymour – Mid-Twenties and perhaps balding a little. Our insecure, naïve, put-upon, florist clerk hero. Above all he’s a sweet well-meaning little man. He is NOT  a silly, prat falling nerd and therefore should NOT be played as the hero of a Jerry Lewis Film.
Audrey -  The bleached blonde, Billie Dawn – like, secret love of Seymour’s life. If you took Judy Holliday,  Carol Channing, Marilyn Monroe, and Goldie Hawn, removed their education and feelings of self-worth, dressed them in spiked heels and a black dress, and then shook them up in a test tube to extract what’s sweetest and most vulnerable – that’d be Audrey.
Mr. Mushnik – Audrey and Seymour’s Boss. A failure of an East Side florists. His accent, if he has one, is more that of a middle class New York than of Eastern Europe. He seldom smiles but often sweats.
Orin -  A tall, dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies. He is NOT, however, a left over from the movie version of Grease. Think instead of an egotistical pretty boy – all done up like a greaser but thinking like an insurance salesman and talking like a radio announcer. (The Actor playing Orin MAY or MAY NOT also play; A voice, Wino #2, Customer, Radio Announcer, Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, Skip Snip, and Patrick Martin.
The Plant (Audrey Two) – An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado. It has a huge, nasty-looking pod which gains a shark-like aspect when open and snapping at food. The creature is played by a series of four increasing large puppets. The first time we see The Plant it is less than one foot tall. The last time we see it, it fills the entire stage. (The actor manipulating the puppet MAY or MAY NOT also portray Wino #1)
Voice of the Plant – Provided by an actor on an offstage microphone. The sound is a cross between Otis Redding, Barry White and Wolfman Jack. Think of the voice as that of a street-smart, funky, cunning villain – Rhythm and Blues’ answer to Richard the Third.
Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon – Three female street urchins who function both as participants in the action and a Greek Chorus outside of it. They’re hip, smart, and the only people in the whole cast who really know what’s going on. In their “Greek Chorus” capacity, they occasionally sing to the audience directly. And when they do, it’s often with a “secret smile” that says; “we know something you don’t know.”
 
 
 
What to Prepare
Auditions (Round One)
Men:
Men should prepare to sing ONE of the following songs to sing at the first round of auditions:

Women:
Women should prepare ONE of the following song to sing at the first round of auditions:
Somewhere That’s Green                        Skid Row (the first part. “Alarm goes off at seven…”
Call Backs
Should you be asked to sing at call backs you will be asked to sing a song based on the character you are called back for.
Seymours should be prepared to sing “Grow for Me,” “Suddenly Seymour” and “Feed Me (Git It)”
Audreys should be prepared to sing “Somewhere that’s Green” and Suddenly Seymour”
Orins should be prepared to sing “Dentist”
Audrey II’s should be prepared to sing “Supperitme”
Street Urchins should be prepared to sing the 1st part of “Skid Row”
Having these pieces memorized is a bonus but not required.
Location and Times
Auditions will be held at The Historic Ritz Theater  at 310 N 27TH Street, Gadsden Al 35904. Auditions will be July 7th at 6:30 pm and July 8th at 10:00 a.m. We will have one final audition July 9th at 1:00 pm and call backs will begin at 2:00 pm. Final Notes
Please know that myself and my staff will do everything we can to make this process go as quickly and as smoothly as possible, that being said, the audition process can be long and tedious and I ask for your patience as we all try to make some very difficult decisions. Casting call for ages 5 and up for Theatre of Gadsden's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Auditions will take place at the Historic Ritz Theatre (310 Wall Street, Gadsden, AL 35904) 

• Saturday May 13th beginning at 10:00 am Central Time for ages 5-9, 12:00 pm for ages 10-14, and 3:00 pm for adults and teens ages 15 and up; 
• Sunday, May 14th beginning at 6:00 pm for adults and teens ages 15 and up;
• Tuesday, May 16th beginning at 6:00 pm for children ages 5-14 and at 7:30 pm for adults and teens ages 15 and up.
• Callbacks will be held as necessary.

This audition is for age 5+ volunteers to play lead and supporting roles. All who wish to be considered for this show must attend an open audition time.   No preparation is required for this audition.  No previous Theatre of Gadsden experience is necessary and all are welcome to audition.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. This was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly. The show has little spoken dialogue; it has a family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, runs July 21st through July 30th, 2017, with three shows per week on weekends.
